Closterkeller
Formed in Warsaw in 1988 around Anja Orthodox, Przemysław Guryn and Jacek Skirucha, Closterkeller established itself on the Polish scene at the intersection of gothic rock, alternative metal, gothic metal and a dark new wave that regularly surfaces in their arrangements. From the start, Closterkeller stood out for songwriting in Polish filled with imagery and metaphors and for the central role of Anja Orthodox’s voice, while the band evolved its sound between heavy guitars, melodic keyboards and more atmospheric passages. After Purple in 1990 and Blue in 1992, the band broadened its audience with Violet (1993) and Scarlet (1995), before introducing more electronic elements on Cyan (1996). The trajectory continued with Graphite (1999), Nero (2003), Aurum (2009), Bordeaux (2011) and Viridian (2017). Despite numerous lineup changes, Closterkeller has maintained an artistic continuity driven by Anja Orthodox and, for long periods, by Michał Rollinger’s keyboards. Present at festivals such as Jarocin, Castle Party and Wave‑Gotik‑Treffen, Closterkeller has occupied a lasting place in the gothic and alternative rock landscape of Central Europe since the late 1980s.
