Swansea Sound
Formed in 2019 between Wales and London, Swansea Sound brings together musicians already active in the British indie pop scene, notably through Heavenly, Talulah Gosh and The Pooh Sticks. The band’s name, a reference to a former Welsh radio station, accompanies songwriting that blends catchy pop melodies, jittery guitars inherited from the C86 movement and an almost punk energy. Their lyrics often focus on the music industry, digital culture and the memory of independent scenes. Swansea Sound released a first album, Live at the Rum Puncheon, in 2021 on the Skep Wax and HHBTM labels, demonstrating a taste for physical formats, DIY circuits and a deliberately lo-fi aesthetic. In 2023 the band followed up with Twentieth Century, which extends that approach by playing on the contrast between nostalgia for alternative scenes and a critical view of the present. Active on British and international indie stages, the group situates itself in a continuity between 1980s independent pop and current practices, maintaining a tight guitar-band setup centred on writing direct songs.
