Peter Noone

Born in Davyhulme, Lancashire, Peter Noone took the lead of Herman’s Hermits at a very young age. The English group was associated with the beat and pop-rock wave of the 1960s, with a style built on immediate melodies, clear choruses and pop songwriting informed by British rock. Under the nickname Herman, Peter Noone was the group’s voice on tracks such as I’m into Something Good, Mrs. Brown, You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter, There’s a Kind of Hush and No Milk Today, pursuing a career that encompassed both touring stages and the era’s musical television and cinema. After Herman’s Hermits disbanded in the early 1970s, Peter Noone continued as a solo artist with singles like Oh You Pretty Thing, written by David Bowie, and the 1982 album One of the Glory Boys. He also briefly led The Tremblers, a lineup closer to power pop, which released Twice Nightly in 1980. Alongside his music career, Peter Noone appeared on screen and on stage, notably in Coronation Street and in The Pirates of Penzance on Broadway, before returning to extensive touring as Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone.
