Fat Tony

Born in 1988 and hailing from Houston's Third Ward, Fat Tony, full name Anthony Lawson Jude Ifeanyichukwu Obiawunaotu, has carved a path at the intersection of Texas independent rap and a Nigerian-American background. Active since the late 2000s, he first made a name for himself on Houston's underground scene before gradually broadening his approach toward a more flexible, melodic hip‑hop informed by pop, rock and punk references. After an initial EP in 2008 he released the album RABDARGAB in 2010, then Double Dragon in 2012 with producer Tom Cruz, a collaboration that continued on Smart Ass Black Boy in 2013. His discography then moved toward more open, personal formats with MacGregor Park (2017), 10,000 Hours (2018), Wake Up (2020) with Taydex, and Exotica (2020). Fat Tony has also developed side projects such as Charge It to the Game with Kyle Mabson. Between Houston roots, alternative rap and activity within American indie circles, he has maintained for more than a decade a distinctive trajectory based on direct delivery and productions that extend beyond the strict bounds of local rap.
