Ramoncín
Born in Madrid in 1955, José Ramón Julio Márquez Martínez, better known as Ramoncín, came to prominence in the late 1970s on the Spanish rock scene by combining punk energy, urban rock and electric songwriting. Emerging from Madrid’s club circuit, Ramoncín recorded a self-titled debut album in 1978, followed by Barriobajero in 1979 and Arañando la ciudad in 1981, which established a repertoire focused on life in working-class neighborhoods, social critique and a direct tone. Throughout the 1980s he accompanied the rise of the Movida madrileña with a sound that incorporated rock and roll, touches of new wave and power pop, continuing in the studio with Ramoncinco in 1984 and Como el fuego in 1987, before returning in 1993 with Fe ciega. Alongside his work as a singer-songwriter and performer, Ramoncín developed a significant media presence in Spain — television, radio, publications and film appearances — which also positioned him as a public figure beyond rock. On stage he relies on a classic rock line-up, guitars and a prominent rhythm section, for concerts that alternate fast numbers, more narrative pieces and reinterpretations from a repertoire built over several decades.
