Call It Off
Formed in the early 2010s in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, Call It Off follows the line of US melodic pop punk while rooting it in the Dutch rock scene. The band, structured as a quartet with two vocalists and two guitars, develops fast-paced songs driven by catchy choruses, strong vocal harmonies and English lyrics focused on relationships, disillusionment and coming of age. After early EPs that circulated widely in the pop punk scene, Call It Off gathered this material on the compilation “Lovers & Liars” in 2014 and released their first studio album, “Abandoned”, in 2015, which established a direct sound heavily reliant on guitar energy. In 2017, “Life’s a Beach” moved the band toward a slightly more pop-oriented songwriting approach, with more varied tempos and a greater emphasis on sung melodies. The EP “Suffer”, released in 2018, introduced darker atmospheres and touches of emo and alternative rock without breaking the band’s pop punk framework. Active on club and festival stages across the Netherlands and Europe, Call It Off has largely built their trajectory through live shows, joining a touring network with other contemporary punk and rock acts. Through this sequence of recordings and tours, Call It Off has consolidated an identity centered on short, direct songs that are immediately identifiable within the European pop punk scene.
