Aslan
Born in Finglas, north Dublin, Aslan emerged in the early 1980s around Christy Dignam, Billy McGuinness, Joe Jewell and Alan Downey. The Irish band developed a melodic rock infused with pop, featuring direct guitars, understated ballads and songwriting rooted in a Dublin urban imagination. After early tracks that established them on the local scene, Aslan released the album Feel No Shame in 1988, before splitting around the turn of the 1990s and reforming a few years later. This second phase continued their discography with Goodbye Charlie Moonhead (1994), Made in Dublin (1999), Here Comes Lucy Jones (2003) and For Some Strange Reason (2012). Over time Aslan maintained a regular presence on Irish stages, alternating between indoor concerts and festivals, with a repertoire that moves between band rock, pop choruses and more acoustic passages. Aslan's story remains inseparable from the voice of Christy Dignam, who died in 2023.
