Jack L
Born in Athy, County Kildare, Ireland, Jack L, the stage name of Jack Lukeman, has developed since the 1990s a career that sits between rock, alternative rock and songwriting, with a vocal approach strongly marked by live performance. After beginnings on the European busking circuit and a stint with The Black Romantics, with whom he recorded Wax in 1995, Jack L attracted attention in Dublin during a residency at the Da Club before embarking on a solo path. This period took shape with Metropolis Blue in 1999, then Universe in 2001, an album recorded between Los Angeles, Jamaica and Dublin with Greg Wells. Jack L then followed with Songs from the Little Universe Show (2002), The Amsterdam Album (2005), Broken Songs (2006) and Burn On (2008), dedicated to the songs of Randy Newman. Over the years Jack L broadened his repertoire with The 27 Club (2012), The King of Soho (2016), Magic Days (2017) and Echo On (2022). His career blends rock concerts, more theatrical formats and collaborations with musicians, arrangers and producers such as Martin Clancy, Brian Byrne and Craig Armstrong, in an aesthetic where narrative song intersects with often expansive arrangements and a pronounced taste for interpretation.
