Kíla

Formed in Dublin in 1987 by students of Coláiste Eoin, Kíla first made their mark on the streets—especially Grafton Street—before establishing themselves on the folk stages and at festivals in Ireland and later across Europe. The group’s core has long revolved around the Ó Snodaigh brothers, with a variable lineup that expanded at times in a collective approach combining Irish‑language singing, Gaelic traditions and an openness to other rhythms. Kíla’s music sits within a fusion of Irish folk, driven by uilleann pipes, flutes, fiddle, percussion and a subtle rock underpinning, with a notable taste for polyrhythms, shifting arrangements and dance‑oriented forms. After Groovin’ (1991), Kíla released, among others, Handel’s Fantasy (1993), Mind the Gap (1995), Tóg É Go Bog É (1997), Lemonade and Buns (2000), Luna Park (2003), Kíla and Oki with OKI (2006), Gamblers’ Ballet (2007), Soisín (2010), Suas Síos (2014) and Kíla & Brass – Raise the Road (2025). Kíla has also developed regular work for film, collaborating with Bruno Coulais on the soundtracks for The Secret of Kells (2009), Song of the Sea (2015) and Wolfwalkers (2021), as well as on Arracht (2021).
