Stefan Sundström
Born in Stockholm in 1960 and raised in the southern part of the Swedish capital, Stefan Sundström has since the 1980s developed a career that intersects songwriting, rock, pop and the heritage of the Scandinavian visa tradition. After stints with several groups on the Swedish punk and rock scene before breaking out more widely with Apache in the late 1980s, Sundström then built a solo discography nourished by everyday narratives, social observation and references to the Swedish literary and sung tradition. His songs pair a direct writing style with arrangements ranging from acoustic folk to electric rock, with regular space for ballads, urban chronicles and politically engaged songs. Among his albums are En bärs med Nefertite (1990), Happy Hour Viser (1992), Vitabergspredikan (1994), Fisk i en skål (2000), Sundström spelar Allan (2001), dedicated to Allan Edwall, Fabler från Bällingebro (2006), Domedagspredikan (2019), Östan västan om stress och press (2021) and Himlajorden – låtar av Evert Taube (2023). Alongside music, Stefan Sundström has also worked as author and comedian, which illuminates the very embodied dimension of his repertoire and his regular presence on Swedish stages between rock concerts, tours of song and more stripped-down formats.
