The Cosmic Carnival
Based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, The Cosmic Carnival has been developing a rock sound since the late 2000s that draws on Americana, folk and psychedelia, with strong echoes of 1960s and 1970s sonics. Built around a core of several singers and instrumentalists, the band emphasizes vocal harmonies, melodic guitars and extended arrangements that range from country ballads and bright folk-rock to more electrified passages. The Cosmic Carnival first made a name on the Dutch scene through a string of club and festival appearances before broadening out to larger European tours and a number of tribute projects, notably focused on North American classic rock. Their discography includes a self-titled debut (2010), followed by Changes (2014), First Flowers (2017), The Edge of Nowhere (2019) and New Gold (2023), each continuing the exploration of a rock that is retro in its references and contemporary in its songwriting. In studio and on stage the band operates collectively, with members sharing vocals, writing and arrangements, grounding The Cosmic Carnival in the tradition of a classic band rather than a single-fronted project.
