Cairokee
Formed in the mid‑2000s in Cairo, Egypt, Cairokee centers around singer‑guitarist Amir Eid and a core group of musicians oriented toward rock and alternative pop, with electric guitars, keyboards and a prominent rhythm section. Initially active on the local scene with English‑language covers, Cairokee shifted to original Arabic compositions shortly before the 2011 uprising; songs such as “Sout El Horeya” and “Ya El Midan” anchored the band in a marked social and political context. The debut album, “Matloob Zaeem,” was released in 2011, followed by “El Sekka Shemal” (2014), “Noaata Beida” (2017) and “Abna’a El Bota” (2019), which confirm a songwriting focus on urban daily life, the contradictions of Egyptian youth and broader societal change. Musically, Cairokee mixes rock structures, pop melodies, Oriental influences and spoken passages close to rap, with particular attention to lyrics and collective choruses. Present on major Egyptian stages, regional festivals and international tours, the band maintains steady activity through studio recordings, widely viewed videos and concerts where audiences sing along—reinforcing the collective dimension at the heart of the project.
