David Grant

Born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1956 and raised in London, David Grant developed his career between British soul, funk, pop and R&B. He first emerged in the early 1980s as part of Linx, an English soul-funk duo noted for a danceable, melodic repertoire combining groove, prominent bass and sophisticated vocals. After that initial phase, Grant launched a solo career in 1983 with a more pop-soul direction, without abandoning funk’s conventions or a songwriting approach focused on choruses and elegant arrangements. His discography notably includes David Grant (1983), Hopes and Dreams (1985), Change (1987) and Anxious Edge (1990). In those years he also recorded several duets with Jaki Graham, including 'Could It Be I’m Falling in Love' and 'Mated' (1985), which remain among his best-known tracks. Alongside his own releases, Grant worked as a backing and session singer for various artists and later became a prominent vocal coach and media contributor in the UK. This dual activity reflects a career rooted in 1980s English soul, later broadened to supporting pop performers and vocal pedagogy.
