Café del mundo

Flamenco guitar duo based in Germany, Café del Mundo brings together Jan Pascal and Alexander Kilian around an instrumental approach that moves between contemporary flamenco, world music and jazz and classical influences. Active on the European scene since the 2010s, Café del Mundo develops work focused on the dialogue between the guitars, alternating original compositions with reinterpretations of existing themes, paying particular attention to rhythmic dynamics and melodic contrasts. On stage the duo performs in concert halls and festivals dedicated to world music, jazz and classical music, and sometimes expands its lineup to larger ensembles up to the symphony orchestra, as recent symphonic projects demonstrate. Café del Mundo’s approach sits within the continuum of modern flamenco, favouring forms open to improvisation and stylistic fusion while preserving the harmonic codes and characteristic pulse of the genre, and adapting this language to contexts ranging from intimate duo settings to more orchestrated stage productions.
