Bremer Kaffeehaus-Orchester

Founded in Bremen in 1990, the Bremer Kaffeehaus-Orchester brings together classically trained musicians in a quintet format that revisits the spirit of café and salon music. Its repertoire spans centuries — from Pachelbel, Vivaldi, Mozart and Brahms to Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, the Beatles, Deep Purple, Sting and Seal — with arrangements that blend classical writing, light swing and touches of pop and rock, scored for violin, cello, double bass, piano and a wind section including flute, clarinet, saxophone and bass clarinet. A regular presence at the Glocke in Bremen, the ensemble also performs across Germany and neighbouring countries in a concert format where the musical interpretation is accompanied by a subtly theatrical presentation. After pianist Johannes Grundhoff departed in 2022, Machiko Totani joined the group. On record, the Bremer Kaffeehaus-Orchester has been recording since the mid-1990s with albums such as Die Erste (1995), Lieben Sie Strauß? (1999), Rendezvous im Kaffeehaus (2000), Café Espressivo (2009), Black Coffee (2015) and Opus 14 (2019).
