Mutabor
Born in Berlin in 1991 around Axel Steinhagen, and after an initial meeting with Tilmann Walter in Wismar, Mutabor was built in a register where punk rock meets folk, later opening up to ska, reggae and German-language pop songwriting. The Berlin formation early on adopted a distinctive color, driven by the dialogue between guitar, bass, drums, violin and wind instruments, which has often associated Mutabor with folk-punk without summing up its whole evolution. After beginnings on cassette in the mid-1990s, Mutabor released their first official album, Mutabor, in 1997, then JaJa in 2001, which further broadened their stylistic range. This was followed by Live in 2003, Individuum in 2004, the EP Willkommen in der Schablone in 2006, and a first split the same year. Reactivated in 2009, Mutabor hit the road again and released Das Blaue in 2010, before another pause in 2011. The band returned with the anthology Her mit dem schönen Leben in 2013, the EP Euphoria in 2017 and the album Rebel in 2022. Through changes of personnel, Mutabor has kept as a point of continuity Axel Steinhagen’s voice and songwriting, in a collective formula attached to the stage and to a blend of rock, chanson and festive influences.
