Klaus Hoffmann
Born in Berlin in 1951, Klaus Hoffmann early on developed a dual career as a singer and actor within the German cultural scene. Trained first as an actor, he gained attention on stage and television before releasing his first eponymous album “Klaus Hoffmann” (1975), which placed him in the tradition of the Liedermacher and songs inspired by francophone chanson. Hoffmann’s music blends German song traditions, influences from Jacques Brel and pop ballads with spare arrangements that center voice, piano and guitar; his narrative lyrics are often rooted in everyday life, memory and the city of Berlin. In the late 1970s and early 1980s he deepened his work of adapting Brel into German, which became an important strand of his stage and studio repertoire. Alongside his steady recording output he continued acting in film and television, appearing in several German productions while remaining associated with an intimate, theatrical chanson aesthetic.
