Ibrahim Electric
Active since the early 2000s in Copenhagen, the Danish trio Ibrahim Electric has developed an organ‑centered instrumental fusion blending jazz, funk, afrobeat, soul‑jazz and echoes of surf music. Formed in 2002 around drummer Stefan Pasborg, organist Jeppe Tuxen and guitarist Niclas Knudsen for a graduation concert at the Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium, the band has kept the same lineup and pursued an aesthetic of dense grooves, often brisk tempos and collective improvisation. Their debut album Ibrahim Electric was released in 2004, followed notably by two recordings with American trombonist Ray Anderson— Ibrahim Electric Meets Ray Anderson (2005) and Ibrahim Electric Meets Ray Anderson – Again (2007)—which helped root the group in the international jazz scene. The albums Absinthe (2006), Brothers of Utopia (2008), Royal Air Maroc (2010), Isle of Men (2012), Rumours from Outer Space (2014), The Marathon Concert (2017), The X‑Mas Album (2018) and Time Machine (2020) trace the evolution of Ibrahim Electric’s sound, between the legacy of the 1960s Hammond organ and an energy close to rock. Ibrahim Electric performs regularly on European jazz stages, appears at festivals such as the NUE Jazz Festival in Nuremberg and Jazzfestival Alto Adige, and tours in North America, South America, North Africa and Asia.
