Omar EK

Born and raised in Casablanca, Morocco, Omar EK first developed his practice as a self-taught musician on local stages before moving to France in 2010. His artistic universe was nourished by a more broadly mixed environment. Through various encounters, he has worked with instrumentalists from Arab, African and Brazilian traditions, shaping a rhythmic and melodic approach centered on the music of North Africa and the Arab world. His solo project has taken shape around electronic music, which he uses as a framework to reinterpret this heritage by incorporating sounds inspired by 1980s synths and funk grooves. In both live performance and the studio, Omar EK favors repetitive structures and hypnotic textures, while leaving ample space for melodic motifs drawn from his Moroccan roots. Performing in clubs, concert halls and within independent networks, he positions himself in a scene where North African heritage and contemporary electronic aesthetics constantly intersect.
