Buñuel
Born at the crossroads of the American noise rock scene and the Italian post-hardcore, Buñuel brings together singer Eugene S. Robinson, based in the United States and known for Oxbow, with guitarist Xabier Iriondo, bassist Andrea Lombardini and drummer Franz Valente, musicians active in Italy in projects linked to experimental and abrasive rock. Formed in the mid-2010s, Buñuel develops tense music, made of dissonant guitars, dry rhythms and convulsive spoken word, between no wave, noise, art punk and industrial rock. The group released A Resting Place for Strangers in 2016, then The Easy Way Out in 2017, before Killers Like Us in 2022, three records that prolong the same harsh aesthetic while varying the balances between frontal chaos, repetitive textures and narrative tension. Buñuel thus moves between European and American independent circuits, in a band format where the experience of each member feeds a compact, jarring and very physical sound. Buñuel is part of a lineage of outfits that explore the collision between noisy rock, vocal performance and fragmented writing, with an approach closer to stage impact than to technical demonstration.
