Tony Tixier
Trained in jazz and classical piano in the Paris region, Tony Tixier developed early a musical language that combines meticulous composition with open improvisation. Born in Montreuil, France, and based in New York, Tixier is part of a contemporary jazz scene in which the acoustic trio occupies a central place in his work, alongside quartet projects and more intimate formats. His playing is characterized by a pronounced use of dynamics, harmonic textures reminiscent of contemporary composition, and an emphasis on the singing quality of melody, while maintaining a strong sense of rhythm and interaction. His first album, 'Parallel Worlds' (2009), established this blend of European influences and American jazz culture, followed by 'Dream Pursuit' (2012) and 'Life Of Sensitive Creatures' (2016), which confirmed the importance of solo piano and the trio in his career. Active both as a leader and as a sideman, Tony Tixier regularly collaborates within the New York scene and continues to alternate between international tours, residencies, and recording projects.
