The New Hires
Based in Ottawa, Ontario, The New Hires craft melodic indie rock that blends the drive of 2000s rock with more contemporary songwriting—direct choruses, taut guitars and an alt-rock tension. The project takes the shape of a five-piece led by Max on vocals, with Phil and Aidan on guitars, Jack on bass and Christian on drums. On stage, The New Hires have steadily made their mark on the Ontario circuit, playing numerous venues across the province and opening for JJ Wilde, Dear Rouge, Hotel Mira and DURRY. Their path rests on an accessible yet precise aesthetic, with songs that alternate between upfront energy and more restrained ballads. The New Hires also collaborated with producer Thomas D’Arcy—known for his work with NOBRO, The Sheepdogs and July Talk—on the EP Talking to the Walls, a record focused on social anxieties and the questions that come with early adulthood. With tight group dynamics and a strong sense of melody, The New Hires sit within a contemporary indie-rock vein informed by power-pop and alternative roots.
