Alex Cornish

Based in Edinburgh, Alex Cornish has since the late 2000s been developing songwriting that sits between indie rock, alternative rock and melodic pop, with writing focused on the voice, piano and guitar. His first album, Until the Traffic Stops, was released initially in 2008 and then partly re-recorded and reissued in 2009, in an approach largely shaped in a home studio. Alex Cornish then followed with Call Back in 2010, No Shore in 2011, Beyond the Serenade in 2015, Hang on the Word in 2017, So Long to Looking In in 2020, We Don’t Know What You’re Thinking in 2022, then the albums Henry Found the Time and Squall Critical in 2024. His career has built itself both as a solo artist and with a band for live work, notably around musicians such as Bevis Hungate, Simon Berriman or Paul Gilbody, in a format that favours spare arrangements, sometimes enriched with strings. Alex Cornish has also toured in the United Kingdom alongside Kathryn Williams, whose project he has supported as a pianist, and has supported opening acts for Alison Moyet, Amy Macdonald, Tom McRae or Starsailor. Parallel to his records, Alex Cornish has written for film and television, with music used in cinema and TV, and has also signed string and brass arrangements for other artists, including Morcheeba.
