Bryde
Under the name Bryde, Sarah Howells has been developing since 2016 a solo project born in Wales, after a career already well established in the Welsh independent scene. Originally from Milford Haven, in the western part of the country, she first made a name for herself with Paper Aeroplanes, an indie folk and pop duo formed with Richard Llewellyn, active for more than a decade and featured on several albums, from The Day We Ran into the Sea in 2009 to Joy in 2015. With Bryde, Sarah Howells moves toward a writing that is more direct and electric, at the crossroads of indie rock, alternative pop and a tenser folk, propelled by clear guitars, tightened melodies and a lead vocal. After the EPs EP1 and EP2 in 2016, Bryde released Like an Island in 2018, followed by The Volume of Things in 2020 and Still in 2022, affirming a more frontal song format without abandoning an introspective sensibility. In parallel with this work, Sarah Howells has also collaborated with several trance and electronic music producers, notably Lange, John O’Callaghan, First State, Dash Berlin, Paul van Dyk and Markus Schulz, a distinct facet of her career that sheds light on Bryde’s melodic precision without defining its principal aesthetic.
