Deltron 3030

Deltron 3030 is a hip-hop project that emerged in the late 1990s around producer Dan the Automator, Oakland rapper Del the Funky Homosapien and Montreal DJ Kid Koala. The project brings together musicians from the San Francisco Bay Area and the Canadian scene. The trio develops an alternative hip-hop with a strong narrative bent, marked by science-fiction imagery and lyrics set in a dystopian future. The concept album “Deltron 3030” was released in 2000 and established the group's signature: cinematic productions, intricate scratches, a soundtrack-like atmosphere and a continuous narrative carried by Del, with contributions from guests drawn from rap and indie rock. After a long hiatus punctuated by individual collaborations, Deltron 3030 returned in 2013 with “Event 2”, which extends this futuristic universe in a more orchestrated mode. On stage Deltron 3030 performs episodically, sometimes with an expanded lineup, adapting its compositions to a more collective live format.
