Alison's Halo
Formed in Tempe, Arizona, in 1992, Alison's Halo is part of the American dream-pop and shoegaze scene of the 1990s, notable for a sound built from vaporous vocals, thick yet airy guitars, and melodies that remain clear beneath layers of saturation. The band's core comprises Catherine and Adam Cooper, joined over time by several musicians, including Roger Brogan. Early on Alison's Halo recorded the cassettes Slug (1993) and Halo (1994) and released the single Dozen in 1995. The group became active on the US indie circuit, opening for touring acts and appearing at festivals such as CMJ and South by Southwest. After splitting up in the late 1990s, Catherine and Adam Cooper pursued other projects in Chicago before reviving Alison's Halo in 2009. Their discography is closely tied to the compilation Eyedazzler 1992–1996, released in 1998 and reissued in an expanded edition titled Eyedazzler in 2017. In 2016 the track "Dozen" was also included in the box set Still in a Dream: A Story of Shoegaze 1988–1995, which repositions Alison's Halo within the wider history of shoegaze.
