Romero Lubambo

Romero Lubambo is an essential Brazilian guitarist, credited with introducing a new way of approaching Brazilian jazz guitar in the United States when he moved to New York in 1985. His playing—marked by fluid virtuosity—blends the rhythmic sophistication of Brazilian music (samba, bossa, choro) with a complete command of the language of American jazz. A highly sensitive improviser, he quickly became a "first-call" guitarist, sought after both for the authenticity of his Brazilian colours and for his ease across contexts ranging from hard bop to intimate acoustic dialogues. His career features major collaborations with Dianne Reeves, Angélique Kidjo, Michael Brecker, Yo-Yo Ma, Diana Krall, Wynton Marsalis, Kurt Elling and Ivan Lins. Alongside critically acclaimed solo albums, he is also prominent as a member of Trio da Paz, which he founded with Nilson Matta and Duduka da Fonseca and which received a Grammy nomination. Between composition, high-level collaborations and an international stage presence, he remains one of the most respected and inspiring voices in modern Brazilian jazz.
