Murphy's Law
Born in Astoria, Queens, New York, Murphy's Law took shape in 1982 around singer Jimmy Drescher, who remained the only permanent member of a highly fluid lineup. Rooted in the CBGB-era New York hardcore scene, Murphy's Law initially developed a fast, confrontational hardcore punk sound with skate-punk and crossover thrash elements, before incorporating more ska, funk and reggae in the early 1990s. After the live demo Bong Blast in 1983, Murphy's Law released the album Murphy's Law in 1986, followed by Back with a Bong! in 1989, The Best of Times in 1991, Dedicated in 1996 and The Party’s Over in 2001. This evolution is especially audible on The Best of Times, recorded with John Norwood Fisher and Philip “Fish” Fisher of Fishbone and augmented by members of that band. Over the decades Murphy's Law has shared bills with groups such as Agnostic Front, Circle Jerks, Beastie Boys, Ramones and Red Hot Chili Peppers, while maintaining a lyrical identity lighter than parts of the New York hardcore scene, balancing humor, everyday themes and stage energy.
