Maraboutage
Born in Marseille, Maraboutage developed as a collective and a series of club nights moving between Afro‑Caribbean legacies, rap and contemporary electronic music. Under the name La Famille Maraboutage, the project operates with an open approach, featuring various artists and guests depending on the date, and sets that prioritise blending rhythms rather than assigning themselves to a single genre. Maraboutage’s selections draw on dancehall, shatta, baile funk, kuduro, amapiano scenes and other hybrid club forms, in a format designed as much for the dancefloor as for listening to a mix. Rooted in Marseille’s nightlife, Maraboutage has also extended this identity through online publications and shows outside its home city, while retaining an aesthetic shaped by circulation between diasporic scenes, soundsystem cultures and collective festive practices.
