Bret Michaels
American singer and songwriter Bret Michaels, born in 1963 in Butler, Pennsylvania, came to prominence as the frontman of the glam metal band Poison, formed in the early 1980s and rooted in the Los Angeles hard rock scene. With Poison, Michaels helped propel the hair metal wave by blending melodic guitars, catchy choruses, and rock ballads, before launching a parallel solo career more steeped in acoustic rock and country influences. From the late 1990s onward, he has released several albums under his own name, including the soundtrack A Letter from Death Row (1998), followed by Songs of Life (2003), Freedom of Sound (2005), then Custom Built (2010) and Jammin’ with Friends (2013), which features guests from the American hard rock and country scenes. His writing alternates between electric, arena-ready tracks and more stripped-down pieces focused on voice and guitar, allowing him to perform both with a full band and in acoustic settings. Alongside his work with Poison and the Bret Michaels Band, he has appeared frequently on reality television and other screen projects, cementing a profile that bridges mainstream rock culture, steady touring, and a songwriter’s craft aimed at an accessible melodic register.
