Scattered Purgatory

The Taiwanese outfit, also appearing under the Chinese name 破地獄, has evolved since the 2010s in a contact zone between black metal, death-doom, funeral doom, noise and dark ambient. Scattered Purgatory's trajectory was built within underground circuits through a succession of short releases, splits and physical formats, as well as concerts in contexts linked to extreme metal and noise music. Their music favors stretched tempos, massive riffs, abrasive vocals and a focus on texture that brings together doom-like weight, black metal tension and industrial or ritual-like soundscapes. This often dense and repetitive writing places Scattered Purgatory on the border between metal and the experimental, within a Taiwanese scene attentive to crossovers between heavy forms, ambient and noise.
