Pierre Boussaguet

Born in Albi in 1962, Pierre Boussaguet developed an early connection to music before turning to the double bass after a decisive discovery of jazz in his adolescence. Settled in Paris in 1985, he first joined Gérard Badini’s ensembles and later worked with Guy Lafitte, both in a quartet and in broader jazz contexts ranging from small groups to big bands. His career is rooted in acoustic jazz, committed to swing and to the central role of the double bass; he also devoted a personal solo project to the instrument with the album Pour ou contrebasse (2010). His discography also includes Two Bass Hits (1988 and 1989) and New Two Bass Hits (1991) with Ray Brown, The Things We Did Last Summer (1990) with Guy Lafitte, as well as Charme (1998), Crossings (1999) and Le Semeur (2014). A frequent presence at the Jazz in Marciac festival, Pierre Boussaguet also performed in 2007 at the Grand Rex in a programme led by Lalo Schifrin with André Ceccarelli, and has accompanied singer-pianist Sarah McKenzie since 2015.
