SexyTadhg
Born in Ireland and associated with County Carlow, SexyTadhg, also credited under the name Tadhg Ó Grifín, develops a pop project where Irish-language songs, soul, funk, rock and touches of jazz intersect, with an unapologetically cabaret and drag aesthetic. Their trajectory takes shape in the late 2010s on the Irish Gaelic-language scene, with tracks such as Abhainn an Ghrá in 2018 and Mise ’Gus Tusa with Geal in the same year, before a series of releases in 2021 including Macánta, Mo Dhomhain Féin, Casadh An tSúgáin and Space Love. SexyTadhg builds a repertoire where pop melodies rely on expressive vocal writing, flexible arrangements and a stage presence that blends theatricality, humor and intimacy. They appear in varied contexts, from festivals such as Féile na Gealaí, Liú Lúnasa, Electric Picnic and the Oireachtas to more performative cabaret-related formats, as well as Global Pride in 2020. In 2022 Think Of Me - Recorded Live in Whelans is released, which also documents the importance of live performance in their evolution, followed by Ride the Wave in 2024. SexyTadhg also places their work within themes of desire, identity and self-acceptance, while remaining connected to queer and Gaelic-speaking cultural spaces in Ireland.
