Ramleh

Active in the United Kingdom around Gary Mundy, Ramleh emerged in 1982 in the wake of Britain's power electronics and noise scenes tied to the Broken Flag label. The band's early recordings, often issued on cassette in the early 1980s, developed abrasive, minimal, and frontal music, situated between industrial electronics, noise, and death industrial. After an initial period interrupted in 1984 and a revival at the end of the decade, Ramleh reconfigured at the turn of the 1990s and injected a more rock-adjacent writing into its vocabulary, without abandoning the tension or saturation of its beginnings. This evolution is audible on albums such as Grudge for Life (1989), Blowhole (1991), Shooters Hill (1992), Homeless (1994), Adieu, All You Judges (1995), Be Careful What You Wish For (1995), and Boeing (1997), where Ramleh blends noise rock, dark psychedelia, and repetitive structures. The group subsequently reappeared in 2009 with Valediction, marked by a return to power electronics textures, while continuing to alternate rock formats with more purely experimental pieces. Over the years, Ramleh has functioned as a movable nucleus around Mundy, with notable stints by Philip Best, Anthony di Franco, and Stuart Dennison, and remains associated with an approach to sonic experimentation that circulates between industrial scenes, noise, and underground rock.
