Timo Rautiainen & Trio Niskalaukaus

Formed in Jyväskylä, Finland, around the singer and guitarist Timo Rautiainen, Trio Niskalaukaus has since the mid-1990s developed a Finnish-language heavy metal with a tempo often heavy, built on thick riffs and a formula marked by the use of three guitars. Emerging from the wake of Lyijykomppania, the band came together in 1996 and released its first album Lopunajan merkit in 1999, followed by Itku pitkästä ilosta in 2000, Rajaportti in 2002, Kylmä tila in 2004, and Lauluja Suomesta in 2017, after an announced breakup in 2006 and a return embarked the same year. Timo Rautiainen & Trio Niskalaukaus also recorded two albums in German, In frostigen Tälern in 2001 and Hartes Land in 2004, based on adaptations of pieces already released in Finnish, which accompanied their performances on German stages, notably as a support act for HIM, Nightwish and Sonata Arctica. The sound of Timo Rautiainen & Trio Niskalaukaus remains tied to melodic yet dense metal, threaded by a dark tonal mood and lyrics addressing social and environmental issues as well as more intimate narratives. Among the musicians stabilizing the lineup are Seppo Pohjolainen on drums, Jarkko Petosalmi and Jari Huttunen on guitars, and Nils Ursin on bass.
