Gare Du Nord
Born at the crossroads of the Dutch and Belgian scenes, Gare Du Nord emerged in the early 2000s as a nu-jazz and lounge project led by musicians Barend Fransen and Ferdi Lancee. From the first album In Search of Excellounge (2001), Gare Du Nord established the foundations of an aesthetic blending slow grooves, soul and blues influences, jazz harmonies and cinematic atmospheres, often structured like imaginary soundtracks. The group went on to release several studio albums, including Sex ’n’ Jazz (2007) and Love for Lunch (2009), which deepened this mix of urban jazz, understated funk and hushed pop, with an increasing emphasis on female voices. Over the years Gare Du Nord evolved from a studio duo into a stage ensemble with a variable lineup, active in clubs and theatres in the Netherlands, Belgium and more broadly across Europe, with Dorona Alberti as a recurring vocal presence. Gare Du Nord’s compositions also circulate in audiovisual contexts: some tracks have been used in film, series and advertising soundtracks, reinforcing the image of a group working at the intersection of jazz, gentle electronic music and sound illustration.
