Marcelo Criminal

Based in Murcia in southeast Spain, Marcelo Criminal has developed since the second half of the 2010s a repertoire that sits between indie pop, lo‑fi and Spanish alternative song, with concise, ironic writing attentive to everyday details. Initially released in very independent contexts and with limited means, his songs circulated in underground pop networks before becoming associated with the label Sonido Muchacho, linked to part of the new Spanish scene. Marcelo Criminal favors short formats, direct melodies and spare arrangements, where guitars, discreet keyboards and an often restrained voice create an aesthetic of bedroom pop and indie rock without heavy effects. His name became more widely known when his song "Perdona (ahora sí que sí)" was covered by Carolina Durante with Amaia, which brought his songwriting to light beyond the Murcian circle. Between solo releases, anchoring in a collective scene and a taste for immediate songs, Marcelo Criminal occupies a distinctive place in recent Spanish‑language pop.
