Bianca Del Rio

Behind the stage name Bianca Del Rio is Roy Haylock, a drag artist, comedian and costume designer born in 1975 in New Orleans, USA. Trained in the wings of local theatres and cabarets, Bianca Del Rio developed a style blending blunt stand-up, drag culture and musical theatre references, with acts often driven by song and stage performance. International exposure came in 2014 with the sixth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, which Bianca Del Rio won, opening the door to comedy tours in many countries. On stage, Bianca Del Rio cultivates an exaggerated clown aesthetic, pronounced makeup and silhouettes inspired by music-hall, all in the service of a direct and deliberately provocative humour. Alongside touring, the artist appeared on film in the comedy Hurricane Bianca (2016) and its sequel Hurricane Bianca 2: From Russia with Hate (2018), as well as in several filmed specials centered on her stand-up. Bianca Del Rio also published the book Blame It On Bianca Del Rio: The Expert on Nothing with an Opinion on Everything in 2018, extending the tone of her shows onto the page. In 2019 Bianca Del Rio became the first drag queen to headline Carnegie Hall in New York and Wembley Arena in London, before making her West End debut in the musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie as Hugo, aka Loco Chanelle.
