Blue Rodeo

Born in the mid-1980s out of Toronto’s independent scene, Blue Rodeo took shape around the songwriting and vocal tandem of Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor, grounding the band in a blend of country rock, folk, and melodic pop. From the album Outskirts (1987), Blue Rodeo established itself within a Canadian landscape then shaped by alternative rock, and went on to refine a sound built on vocal harmonies, expansive guitars, and writing focused on relationships and North American vistas, notably on Diamond Mine (1989), Casino (1990), and Lost Together (1992). With Five Days in July (1993), recorded in a more rural setting, the group emphasized its acoustic and folk side, while albums such as Palace of Gold (2002) and The Things We Left Behind (2009) explored denser arrangements spanning rock, ballads, and roots influences. Blue Rodeo has charted its course through steady work in the studio and on stage, appearing widely in mid-size venues and at festivals across Canada, and it continues to alternate electric recordings with more stripped-down formats, as evidenced by 1000 Arms (2016) and Many A Mile (2021), which extend an aesthetic that is both collective and centered on the Cuddy/Keelor duo.
