The Jacques

Formed in 2014 between Bristol and London, The Jacques occupy a crossroads of indie rock, Britpop, grunge, post-punk and new wave. The four-piece specialises in short, taut and melodic songs. From the start they appeared on several UK stages, including Dot to Dot Festival and GuilFest, before sharing a bill with The Libertines at Hyde Park and playing Glastonbury in 2015. The band released their first EP, Pretty DJ, in November 2014 and recorded the track “Painkiller” for BBC Introducing in the West the following year. Their early career also included a brief signing to Gary Powell’s 25 Hour Convenience Store label, prior to a period of independent releases. In 2019 The Jacques joined the Modern Sky UK roster. Over time they have developed a tense, direct British rock aesthetic where post‑punk energy blends with poppier choruses and a grunge‑derived roughness, while retaining concise, upfront songwriting.
