Enno Poppe

Born in 1969 in Hemer, North Rhine-Westphalia, Enno Poppe has developed in Berlin a career as a composer and conductor closely tied to the German and European contemporary music scene. He studied composition and conducting at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin and later pursued sound synthesis and algorithmic composition at the Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie in Karlsruhe. Poppe writes music that explores micro-variations, sound masses, timbral shifts and processes of transformation, in a language situated between orchestral writing, chamber music and staged forms. Since 1998 he has directed the ensemble mosaik, a regular presence in Berlin’s contemporary-creation scene, and he has also taught at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler. His catalogue includes the operas Interzone (2003–2004), Arbeit Nahrung Wohnung (2006–2007), premiered at the Munich Biennale in 2008, and IQ (2011–2012), as well as orchestral and ensemble pieces such as Holz (1999–2000), Öl (2001–2004), Speicher (2008–2013), Prozession (2015–2020), Rundfunk (2015–2018) and Augen (2020–2022). Enno Poppe has also collaborated with ensembles and institutions like Ensemble InterContemporain, Ensemble Modern, Klangforum Wien and the Donaueschinger Musiktage.
