Bijan Mortazavi
Born in 1957 in Sari in northern Iran, Bijan Mortazavi trained on the violin from an early age before pursuing a career that blends Persian classical music with Iranian pop. After a period in the United Kingdom, he settled in the United States, where he developed his work as a composer, arranger and instrumentalist within the Iranian diaspora, notably in California. His output alternates between instrumental albums centered on the violin and vocal productions, marked by lyrical melodies, danceable rhythms and orchestrations that combine traditional motifs with contemporary pop formats. From the 1990s onward, Mortazavi disseminated this approach through a steady discography, including the albums Bijan Mortazavi (1990), Dance of Fire (1994) and Fire on Ice (1997), which established the main contours of his aesthetic. On stage he performs both as a soloist and with ensembles at concerts and festivals aimed at Iranian and Middle Eastern audiences in North America, Europe and the Middle East, maintaining a close link between instrumental virtuosity and popular song.
