Niklas Strömstedt
Born in Lund in 1958 and raised in Stockholm, Niklas Strömstedt established himself in Swedish pop as a singer, songwriter and musician, with a focus on melody, radio-friendly formats and often restrained pop ballads. He began in the 1970s as a DJ and joined Lasse Lindbom's circle before playing keyboards with Ulf Lundell on stage and in the studio around 1980. After the solo albums Skjut inte... det är bara jag! (1981) and Andra äventyr (1983), he reached a wider audience with En gång i livet (1989), notably thanks to “Sista morgonen”, and with Om! (1990). His subsequent discography includes Halvvägs till framtiden (1992), Långt liv i lycka (1997), Du blir du jag blir jag (2001) and Två vägar (2008). At the same time Strömstedt developed a substantial career as a songwriter for other artists, collaborated with Marie Fredriksson, produced for 1980s Swedish pop and participated in Triad, which originated “Tänd ett ljus”. In 1994 he formed GES with Anders Glenmark and Orup, a pop trio associated with “När vi gräver guld i USA”, and he has reunited with the group on several occasions in later decades.
