Valkyrien Allstars

Trained in Oslo in the early 2000s, Valkyrien Allstars develops a repertoire at the crossroads of Norwegian traditional music and folk rock, starting from a core of instruments drawn from the Scandinavian heritage and a writing that blends old tunes, original compositions and the energy of the band. Initially conceived as a trio around Tuva Syvertsen, Erik Sollid and Ola Hilmen, the project later expanded with bassist Magnus Larsen and drummer Martin Langlie, asserting a sound broader in scope, between rhythmic tension, melodic lines inherited from Nordic folk, and singing in Norwegian. Gaining attention in Norway in the mid-2000s, Valkyrien Allstars released a self-titled debut album in 2007, followed by To måner in 2009, Ingen hverdag in 2011 and Farvel slekt og venner in 2014, the latter produced by Bugge Wesseltoft. In 2016, the group released Prøv å si noe til meg nå under the abbreviated name Valkyrien, before resuming its original name and releasing Slutte og byne in 2020. On stage as in the studio, Valkyrien Allstars channels tradition toward a more direct form, where bowed strings, the rock pulse and a contemporary popular sensibility coexist without fixed folklore.
