Dan Berglund
Born in Helsinki, Finland, in 1954 and long-established in Gothenburg, Dan Berglund belongs to the Nordic song tradition, bridging songwriter craft, acoustic folk and social writing. Active since the mid-1970s, Berglund emerged in the context of the Swedish prog movement, a scene where political engagement, popular rootedness and independence from mainstream circuits intersect. His first album, En järnarbetares visor, appeared in 1975, followed by Dan Berglund sjunger Rudolf Nilsen in 1977 and Den stora maskeraden in 1979. After a hiatus, he returned with Vildmarken in 1987, where the discourse becomes less directly political, and then with the collection Mina herrar in 1999. Berglund then pursued a more regular thread with Såna som vi... in 2007, Allt är idioternas fel in 2011 and Liv och dikt in 2024. His repertoire rests on a sober voice, foregrounded texts, and a generally spare accompaniment, in an aesthetics where social chronicle, poetry and narrative mingle. Linked to Gothenburg's musical history while remaining marked by his Finnish-speaking Swedish origins, Dan Berglund continues to circulate a repertoire forged on stage and over time.
