OKALI

Around singer Gaëlle and musician Florent, Okali forms an Afro trip-hop duo where downtempo textures, rhythms inspired by African musics and flexible vocal writing intersect, between soothing calm and restrained tension. The project develops within a multidisciplinary framework that also includes images, drawing and fashion, with an identity conceived beyond the sole song format. In their tracks, Okali moves between several languages — from English to Eton, from Zulu to French — situating the music in a constant dialogue between African imaginaries and the contemporary French scene. The ensemble favors lyrics centered on humanism, love and connections, carried by measured singing and an uncluttered production. Over the course of their career, Okali reached a broad audience through an appearance on The Voice and also performed on the main stage of the Musiques Métisses festival in Angoulême, two contexts that illustrate the singular position Okali occupies between media exposure, a visual approach and a taste for aesthetic crossovers.
