Mari Merenda

Based in Brazil and tied to the São Paulo scene, Mari Merenda develops a song format where MPB, folk, acoustic pop and light percussion intersect. Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, she first studied piano and guitar, before broadening her practice to the asalato, a small percussion instrument that has taken a central place in her universe since 2021. Mari Merenda drew attention during the pandemic by posting covers and short formats on social networks built around this instrument, a work that circulated quickly and led her to national visibility in Brazil, including on television. This exposure accompanied the shift toward a personal repertoire, gathered on the EP Crônica in 2022, consisting of seven original tracks. In her songs, Mari Merenda prioritizes sober arrangements, a close vocal tone, a direct melodic sense, and a rhythmic play that gives depth to songs written in an intimate framework. After a series of concerts in Brazil, Mari Merenda began in 2024 her first international tour with dates in Catalonia, Portugal and France, before returning to Europe in 2025, the year of release of the EP Reverbero.
