Ka Baird

In New York, Ka Baird develops a practice located between experimental music, sound performance, improvisation and composition. Her solo project took shape with Sapropelic Pycnic in 2017 and continued with Respires in 2019, Brooding Exercises in 2021, Vivification Exercises in 2021 and Bearings: Soundtracks for the Bardos in 2024. Ka Baird’s music articulates extended voice, breath, layers, drones, unstable pulses and concrete textures in pieces where physical energy matters as much as sonic construction — between abstraction, repetitive tension and a ritual approach. This aesthetic, both organic and direct, is rooted in American and European experimental scenes, with presentations at venues and festivals such as The Kitchen, Issue Project Room, MoMA PS1, Unsound and Le Guess Who. Alongside her solo releases, Ka Baird also works in collective settings, in improvisation as well as composition, nourishing a mobile body of work centered on presence, endurance and the transformation of the voice.
