Benjamin Schoos

Between Liège and Brussels, Benjamin Schoos has developed since the late 1990s a career combining songwriting, production and compositions for film, situated at the intersection of francophone pop, chanson and psychedelic sonorities. Initially active under the pseudonym Miam Monster Miam, he gained notice in a rock and lo-fi pop vein before releasing under his own name more orchestrated tracks, where the French language occupies a central role while English occasionally appears. Alongside his solo projects, Benjamin Schoos co-founded the independent Belgian label Freaksville Records, which enables him to produce and support other artists and to extend his work as an arranger in the studio. His music is characterised by a marked taste for detailed arrangements, frequent use of brass and strings and a melodic grounding that evokes both 1960s–1970s pop and more contemporary textures. On stage he appears according to context in electric line-ups or in smaller formats, performing in Belgium and across Europe, and he has broadened his activity to include composition for cinema and television, as evidenced by his credits on various soundtracks.
