Belako

Formed in 2011 in Mungia, Biscay, Belako brings together four musicians from the Basque scene around a taut post‑punk, angular indie rock and an alternative rock threaded with new wave and electronic touches. The name Belako refers to the neighborhood where the band rehearses, and their songs, sung mostly in English with some incursions in euskara, rely on nervous guitars, a dry rhythm section, dark keyboards and shared vocals. After beginnings in small venues and local contests in 2012, Belako quickly gained visibility with an appearance at Bilbao BBK Live and an opening slot for Elvis Costello at the San Sebastián jazz festival. The first album, Eurie, was released in 2013, followed by the EPs Bele Beltzak, Baino Ez and AAAA!!!! in 2014, issued in a DIY spirit that accompanied the creation of their own label. Belako continued with Hamen in 2016, then Render Me Numb, Trivial Violence in 2018, before Plastic Drama in 2020 and Sigo regando in 2023. Across these records, Belako broadened its sonic spectrum while remaining rooted in a direct, physical and dark songwriting that has taken them from Spanish festivals to European stages.
